September 06 The bruma is denseThe weather has been cool and fairly nice here in Paraguay for the past two months since we arrived. Yesterday weather conditions took a turn for the worse. The temperature climbed, and a temperature inversion has trapped the smoke coming from field burning. The smoke, or "bruma," has been simply awful. I heard that it can trigger respiratory issues and asthma. It has definitely exacerbated the cold I caught last weekend. It continues to nag, and I can't quite shake it. Today is the best I've felt since Saturday, but I'm still not fully recovered. I hope this bruma doesn't last very long. La Nacion carried a story on it today with a photo of a plane (one of the few) taking off at the airport:
September 05 Marketing genius or misplaced ad?I visited CNN.com today to read up on news about Ohio Congressman Paul Gillmor's death, and this news article appeared with a strategically placed banner ad to the right. Is it sheer marketing genius or a sorely misplaced ad? September 04 I'm a slackerYes, that's right...I'm a slacker. It's been over three weeks since I last posted a blog entry. I'm glad people are still reading! So much has happened over the past two months that I don't even know where to start. Contrary to popular belief, this is NOT a quiet, sleepy outpost. It's been far more hectic than I would have ever imagined. I suppose that a preferable alternative to boredom, but it's not preferable to sleep deprivation. Blogging is just one of the few simple joys I've had to sacrifice over the past couple of months. It finally caught up to me, and I stayed home sick today. I'll go back to work tomorrow. I will try to write more soon, but I'm not optimistic because I have a big report due in just 10 days that I've barely had a chance to write. I'm stealing time from that to write this short entry. |
